Smithfield Township deploys armed security to patrol parks privateofficer.org

SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. Aug 5 2019 -- There are plans to put armed security guards at a popular park in Monroe County. The Smithfield Township supervisors say overcrowding, illegal swimming, and illegal parking have gotten out of control during weekends at Minisink Park. So now, security measures are being taken. With the exception of an evening practice for a peewee football team, Minisink Park is fairly empty in Smithfield Township near Delaware Water Gap. But on the weekend, that's sure to change. Township Supervisor Brian Barrett says hundreds of people flock to the park, most of them from out of town. “It's unbelievable, that's when the tour buses come, with 40, 50 people get off a bus, with their coolers and everything else,” said Barrett. Over the past few years, he says the problems with overcrowding have gotten to a breaking point with people illegally swimming, drinking alcohol and parking on River Road. “They're parking on the side of the road so vans are co...

Gambar
OAKLAND, Calif.   Aug 4 2019 The Peralta Community College District in Oakland has shelled out hundreds of thousands of dollars this year for guards to patrol one of its campuses in case a fire breaks out, because its fire alarm system is in disrepair. But 2 Investigates discovered the “fire watch” guards at Laney College appear to spend much of their time lounging around, smoking and looking at their phones. Laney College near Lake Merritt, was placed on Fire Watch by the Oakland Fire Department because a January routine inspection found “critical deficiencies” including failing alarm panels, blocked fire exits, and unauthorized electricity lines. The college is one of four East Bay schools in the Peralta Community College District that has recently been criticized by teachers, staff, and students for lack of safety precautions and poor facility management. Documents show the fire code violations and safety hazards at Laney have gone unfixed for more than six months. In fa...

York England Aug 4 2019 York Street Rangers have been granted new powers by police. A man is slumped in the closed doorway of the Spurriergate Centre. He looks semi-conscious at best; his head lolling, his eyes unfocussed. There's blood on his hands. PC Ben Pepper is kneeling on the flagstones in front of him, talking to him in a low, soothing voice. He uses the man's name a lot. "How are you, XXXX? Are you still with us? We're trying to help you." The man, it transpires, isn't drunk or on drugs, but has collapsed for medical reasons. An ambulance has been called. PC Pepper is staying with him until it arrives. There's a wonderful gentleness to the way he talks to the man, and occasionally rests a hand on his arm, for support and just to let him know someone is there. Occasionally, PC Pepper breaks off to speak to the police control room on his radio. Yes, he says, an ambulance is on the way. "ETA is about four minutes." A voice at the other e...
