Employees are still reeling hours after the deadly mass shooting that took place on a popular street near the Ned Peppers Bar in Dayton, Ohio. Opening up about the frightening ordeal, during which nine people were killed early Sunday morning, the staff said they were at a loss to explain “why this occurred in our safe entertainment district.” “First and foremost our thoughts are with the victims of this tragedy,” a post shared on the bar’s Facebook page read. “We are shaken and confused.” According to the bar staff, the shooter — who was wearing body armor and carrying a .223-caliber rifle as well as a high-capacity magazine — “started down the road and made his way towards our business.” They went on to explain that police were able to respond to the shooting so quickly as they were already nearby at the time. “We have police regularly staffed next to our business...

Henrietta NY Aug 5 2019 An assault of a hotel security officer was reported on July 26, according to police. The security guard at the DoubleTree Hotel on Jefferson Road said he saw a man sitting in a white Nissan Altima while doing a parking lot check. The security guard tried to make contact with the driver, but the driver pulled out of the parking lot and caused the victim to fall onto the hood of the Nissan. The driver stopped quickly, causing the security guard to fall off the car. The victim was treated at the scene. The assault is under investigation.

Athens GA August 5 2019 Authorities recently arrested a Statham man after allegedly destroyed a room at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. Athens-Clarke County police responded to Athens Regional shortly after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in response to an agitated suspect wandering around with a fire extinguisher, according to a police report. Officers calmed the man down and got him to leave the hospital, but then they received another call that he had possibly destroyed a medical room prior to being met by police. An officer went to observe the room and, according to the report, saw tiles ripped from the ceiling, the air conditioning vent hanging like it had been pulled from the ceiling, and other assorted items thrown around the room. The report also states that an adjacent room had a bed flipped over. The officer was also alerted to a window on a door in the stairwell that was broken. SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. Aug 5 2019 -- There are plans to put armed security guards at a popular park in Monroe County. The Smithfield Township supervisors say overcrowding, illegal swimming, and illegal parking have gotten out of control during weekends at Minisink Park. So now, security measures are being taken. With the exception of an evening practice for a peewee football team, Minisink Park is fairly empty in Smithfield Township near Delaware Water Gap. But on the weekend, that's sure to change. Township Supervisor Brian Barrett says hundreds of people flock to the park, most of them from out of town. “It's unbelievable, that's when the tour buses come, with 40, 50 people get off a bus, with their coolers and everything else,” said Barrett. Omaha NE Aug 5 2019 A Walmart security guard shot a dog Saturday night after someone had released it when the security guard was trying to de-escalate a disturbance in the store's parking lot, Omaha police said. The dog was injured but survived, Omaha police spokeswoman Kelsey Murphy said. No humans, including the security guard, were injured, Murphy said. The security guard was an off-duty police officer, but not from the Omaha Police Department, she said. The incident was reported about 10:15 p.m. at the Walmart at North 50th Street and Ames Avenue. A person who had been involved in the disturbance let the dog free after the security guard got involved, Murphy said. It was not immediately clear if there were any arrests. The Nebraska Humane Society was called in to help.

DETROIT MI Aug 5 2019 Police have arrested a 40-year-old man who shot a security guard at a nightclub on Detroit's west side overnight. Around 1:28 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the scene of a nightclub located on 14000 W. McNichols for reports of a shooting. A 40-year-old customer was being escorted out of the establishment when he pulled out a handgun, fired shots and struck the 57-year-old security guard, police say. The man then ran off from the club but was apprehended by police shortly after in the area of Hubbell near McNichols. He was taken into custody without incident, according to officers. The security guard is currently listed in serious condition at a local hospital. WXYZ
